This book includes all Rautavaara's a cappella male voice choir compositions. It consists of 16 pieces, of which the most extensive is a cycle of 11 songs, Elämän kirja (The Book of Life) . It also includes a new work YL commissioned Rautavaara to compose, Neljä laulua Aleksis Kiven runoihin (Four Songs to Poems by Aleksis Kivi) , completed in 2005.

The edition of Jean Sibelius’ complete a cappella works for male voice choir includes many unknown discoveries such as “Heitä koski kuohuminen”, “Uusmaalaisten laulu”, “Har du Mod?” and Sibelius’ arrangement of Jazeps Vitols ’ cantata “Laulun Mahti”.

Finnish composer Selim Palmgren conducted YL several times at the beginning of 20th century and composed a total of 118 a cappella songs for male voice choir. Before starting the complete recording of Palmgren’s masterpieces, YL compiled the a cappella works to one edition.
